What is the Spice Rack?
The Spice Rack is a curated collection of my favorite found items available for purchase. The pop-up is housed inside blue / A GOODWILL BOUTIQUE in downtown Akron.
How long have you been a reseller?
The Spice Rack is born out of a dream I’ve had for a long time. I’ve been reselling online for over a decade. From flea markets to neighborhood street fairs, you could find me lugging my found treasures around to share with others. My collaboration to host a pop-up at Goodwill’s boutique has allowed me to do that and more. Perhaps the greatest gift is meeting the wonderful people who visit the Rack and knowing these pre-loved items have a new home.
How did you start your collaboration with Goodwill?
I’m very passionate about teaching people the benefits of thrifting. After a few years of blogging on Dina’s Days, I began to form relationships with local thrift stores who were looking for collaborative opportunities to reach new customers. I spent a lot of time developing creative and original ideas before approaching companies and brands. After I began guest blogging for Goodwill Akron and styling collections for Goodwill Cleveland’s fashion shows, my services expanded to offer a wider range of creative ideas and client base.Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate to have developed a wonderful relationship with Goodwill Industries of Akron through our Thrift Night Out, fashion events, blogging, and so much more. When they opened their first boutique, Goodwill was gracious enough to invite me to have a pop-up space in their store where I can share my curated collections of some of my favorite vintage and thrifted finds. How could I say no!
What should I expect to find at your rack / pop-up?
The rack is intentionally curated to include finds and styles for women of all sizes. The selections tend to reflect my personal style but I try to be as inclusive as possible with my finds! We plan to include children’s items in the upcoming seasons.
Is blue / A GOODWILL BOUTIQUE taking treasures away from the regular Goodwill stores?
Short answer is no. Long answer: blue features donated upscale, high-quality, and designer pieces. Don’t worry, there are still TONS of treasures to go around at their regular stores. Trust me, I wouldn’t lie to you about that one. In fact, this was my first question to Goodwill as well. blue / A GOODWILL BOUTIQUE is great for everyone who loves a good deal, but ideal for those who don’t like to dig or find a regular thrift store to be overwhelming. Everything is affordable and not overpriced. Plus, the proceeds still support their mission and programs. Nonprofit organizations must always think of innovative and creative ways to sustain their programs and this is one way Goodwill is doing just that. Goodwill boutiques are starting to pop up across the country.
Do you own blue / A GOODWILL BOUTIQUE?
No, I don’t own the boutique. blue / A GOODWILL BOUTIQUE is a Goodwill Industries of Akron store. I am the founder and curator of the The Spice Rack, a pop-up inside the store.
