How to thrift maternity clothes

In all of my years of thrifting I can probably count on one hand the times I’ve actually found cute maternity clothes. I think there are a few reasons for this:

Most maternity clothes aren’t that nice to begin with (my personal opinion)

Many women swap and give away their maternity clothes (practically everything maternity I own came from friends)

Many women hold on to maternity clothes for future pregnancies (I did this) so by the time they make their way to thrift stores they’re out of style or worn out.

Where to find the best secondhand maternity clothes

I’ve had the best luck at these types of stores:

– Consignment and buy / sell / trade type stores because women are turning in higher quality pieces for cash

– Resale apps like Poshmark, eBay, and Mercari

How to find maternity-friendly clothing at thrift stores

This is my approach to finding maternity-friendly pieces at traditional thrift stores:

– maxi dresses (sizing up to make it last through 3rd trimester)
-layering pieces like jean jackets, kimonos, duster cardigans to layer with maternity tanks
-vintage chunky sweaters
-sweatshirts
