The first time I heard about the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Akron was right around the time I created this blog, Dina’s Days. I even remember one of my earliest finds. Take a walk down memory lane and see my Discovery Shop find from 2012 and these pants from 2016 (I still wear these pants!) Keep reading to find out five reasons why it was, and still is one of my favorite resale shops in Akron.
It’s a beautifully curated upscale resale shop
You all know me, I embrace the chaos of traditional thrift stores, but I also thoroughly enjoy a beautifully curated upscale resale shop. Sometimes you just need someone stylish to do the digging for you. Am I right or am I right? Plus, it’s conveniently located in West Akron next to one of my favorite breakfast spots. Win-win.
Proceeds support their mission to fight cancer
Those palazzo pants, and all of the sales from the store support the American Cancer Society’s mission to fight cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
It’s extremely organized
You’ve gotta love resale shops that organize clothing by style, size, AND color. Bargain shopping has never been easier!
Everything is curated with intention
The staff of volunteers at the Akron Discovery Shop do an amazing job carefully curating a mix of new and pre-loved trendy, vintage, and designer clothing, jewelry, furniture, shoes, and home accessories. I absolutely love that it’s size-inclusive too, which isn’t something you always see in upscale resale shops. I’m always a fan of a quality brand-name find, but it’s also very refreshing to know that I can always rely on the Discovery Shop to get my vintage fix, too.
I always score a great deal
In addition to their annual $2 sale, the store is always running some type of sale with their color rotation system. Last month I scored a beautifully made Tory Burch duster for under $30 and vintage Isaac Mizrahi shoes for $7. This weekend I went home with a $10 Neiman Marcus cashmere sweater and a $2 vintage bracelet.
