Dressing for Winter

Winter clothes can’t live up to the light, feminine dresses of summer, the trendy jackets for fall, or the sky high heels in spring. Frumpy sweaters, uncomfortable coats, and wet snow boots are sometimes the reality of winter. I feel like my inspiration is at an all time low beginning in November and ending in April.

4 Runway Blazers

I’m so happy that blazers resurfaced as a big trend over the last couple of years. Extremely popular in the 80s and 90s, this menswear inspired piece now comes in every shape, color, and name for women. I’ve narrowed it down to my four favorite styles: The Sleeveless Blazer, Tail Blazer, Tuxedo Jacket, and Sequin Blazers.

Vintage Inspired Clothing

{1. top, 2. coat, 3.tank, 4. skirt, 5. tank, 6.necklace, 7. clutch. }

I feel like for the last five months or so, I’ve been handing over my shopping funds to local thrift store after thrift store and haven’t been to the mall or boutiques to shop or even browse.

Sheer Maxi Skirts

I was pretty indifferent about this trend until I tried on a sheer maxi skirt. Well, it wasn’t really a maxi skirt. It was part of a Snow White Halloween costume that I found at the thrift store and I was both bemused and amused by my find.

Jewel Tones

Jewel tones are beautiful and bright colors that never go out of style in my book. Get creative and color block with these shades, or tone them down with neutrals. Either way, you will surely shine! I tried to find as many practical pieces for inspiration where you can wear these shades with an every day look. The green is my favorite this season.

Last weekend, I spent the afternoon at a street fair admiring the work of local artists. As I caressed items from one vendor to the next, I noticed a trend in the type items I was grabbing. I repeatedly went for copper tone pieces.

Loving: Statement Earrings+Bright Lipstick

Two of my favorite spring/summer combinations:  bright lips and obscenely large earrings. I like to wear this with both simple looks and dressed up ensembles. With hundreds of statement earrings to choose from, this show stopping look is so easy to create.

Loving: Dexter Moccasins + Hooded Sandals

Payless is the type of place I tend to forget about. It’s not a place I frequent because I haven’t had any luck there probably since high school or early college. With all of the new designer collaborations such as Christian Siriano and Lela Rose, it seems Payless has a little more to offer than before.

As much as I try to incorporate color into my winter wardrobe, sometimes it’s just so much easier to throw on my go-to black cardigan or gray blazer. B-O-R-I-N-G. This spring, I’m going for the hi-lighter look.
