Spring is the ultimate transition season, and spring fashion is no exception. This is the time of year where light jackets and layering should be key players in your wardrobe. With that in mind, we assigned a denim jacket as this month’s prompt for the 12 Months of Thrifting Challenge. A nice, durable jean jacket in classic blue should last in your closet for a long time and can easily become one of your most trusted pieces, sort of like your favorite pair of jeans.
A denim jacket is not only the ultimate seasonal transitional piece, but also a timeless and essential one. Because of that, you can almost always count on finding one at Goodwill. Remember these easy tips when you’re hunting for your next jean jacket at Goodwill:
Stick with a classic style (at least in the beginning).
The jean jacket has certainly evolved over the years. From classic, to vintage, moto, cropped, to embellished, there’s a style for everyone. However, a simple jean jacket in classic blue will never let you down. They are the most versatile and easiest to style. Consider sticking with a classic style first, and adding a unique style later on.
When I thrift jeans, I always touch the fabric. The same rules applies to denim jackets. In fact, I found this $5 Gap jean jacket by touching all of the jackets rather than browsing only with my eyes. I instantly knew it was a soft and high-quality piece without even looking at the brand.
Styling a jean jacket is incredibly simple, especially when you think of it as a neutral. It’s really no different than styling your favorite jeans. It’s basically jeans for the upper half of your body! Here are my top three favorite ways to wear a jean jacket:
Don’t fear the Canadian Tuxedo! Pairing denim on denim is easy. Yes, it’s fashionable and no, they don’t have to match!
Dresses and skirts
I love to elevate a dress or skirt with a jean jacket. It adds a casual element while still looking chic. This includes maxi dresses and skirts.
The blue in the denim contrasts really well with colored bottoms. My favorites include black, white, burgundy, and pink pants.
