Thrifting a cross body bag

If you’ve been participating in our 12 Months of Thrifting Challenge for the last seven months, one of the things you may have noticed is that we’ve curated this list to include the most practical pieces that can put your life at ease. We’re trying to build a wardrobe of essentials that not only make you look fashionable but also make getting dressed in the morning so much easier. We’ve covered a lot of ground in the first half of the year and now that we’ve established a base for everyday essentials, we’re focusing on a few accessories that will tie your look together. This month, it’s the crossbody bag – my favorite style of purse!

I love a bag that allows me to walk around hands-free (especially when I’m thrifting at Goodwill!) so a crossbody bag is an absolute must in my wardrobe. A crossbody bag is a purse with a strap long enough to wear around your body, allowing your hands to be free to do whatever your heart (and hands) desire!  Although I love backpack purses, which also allow you to be hands-free, crossbody bags are much more accessible since the purse lays right on your hips for easy access.

There are so many different styles of crossbody bags to choose from, and I always see them at Goodwill. Because they work well for both work and play, and since purses usually run less than $5 at Goodwill,  I like to keep a few different styles on hand and switch them out when the seasons change.

When you’re searching for your perfect crossbody bag, think about the styles best suit your lifestyle. Do you need a larger bag or a small one? Neutral or bold? Vintage or modern? A black bag is perfect for everyday wear, so that’s always a great place to start. A few of my favorite finds include a bright pink bag that I wear in the summer, a vintage plaid Ralph Lauren bag for fall, a deep green leather bag for winter, and a  fringe crossbody bag that I wear year-round.

Whether you need your hands to chase a toddler around, for thrifting or to lug groceries, a crossbody bag is your new best friend. Now get out there and look for your perfect crossbody bag, your hands will thank you!
