Five Things to Love About Gerri’s Closet

Being an avid thrifter, I often get asked if I ever shop at consignment stores. The answer is: yes, absolutely! When it comes to sustainable and recycled bargains, I keep my options wide open! That’s why I loved shopping at Gerri’s Closet, a local consignment shop located in Uniontown, Ohio. After spending the afternoon shopping and hanging out with Gerri’s team, it’s no wonder why the shop has been a staple in the community for 20 years.

Five Things to Love About Gerri’s Closet

It’s Extremely Organized

Everything is clearly labeled and separated by style, sizes, and even brands. Although I love the thrill of the hunt, it’s nice to be able to beeline to my favorite brands and styles. This is also great for those who are new to consignment and thrift stores, this type of organization makes finding your next treasure a breeze!

The Plus Size Department is Curated with Intention

One of my biggest gripes with thrift stores is the lack of plus size styles available. I think a main reason for this is because there’s a lack of options to begin with, so by the time these items make their way to thrift and consignment stores, it’s slim pickings. However, Gerri and her team have been open and honest about being very intentional about curating a stylish and affordable plus size department. Kudos to them because it was one of the first things I noticed when I stepped into the store.

There’s Something for Everyone

Whether you’re into brand names like Kate Spade and Louis Vuitton, on the hunt for something vintage inspired, or maybe you’re in the mood to update your home decor, you’re bound to find something that speaks to your personal style. Gerri and her team carefully handpick each and every item to curate a beautiful collection of clothing, accessories, and even home decor for women of all ages and styles. For example, one of my best friends loves all things Louis Vuitton. She even has a few Louis Vuitton faux handbag designs in her collection. I will definitely be recommending that she checks out this consignment shop as I am sure they will have something to suit her expensive taste!

They Know You by Name

Want to know how I initially learned about Gerri’s Closet? Word of mouth over the course of many years. Gerri is incredibly friendly, upbeat, and enthusiastic about her store and her customers. It’s no surprise that many of her customers have been around since she opened her doors 20 years ago.

The Consignment Process is Fair (the prices too!)

Gerri’s consignment process is simple: Customers can bring in up to 25 pieces Monday through Friday and items will be evaluated on the spot. Recommended items include seasonal pieces in great condition that have been purchased in the last year or so, and that fall within the style and brand categories that are in-demand at the shop. Items will be held for 90 days and Gerri’s Closet is one of the very few consignment stores that still offers a 50/50 split once the item is sold.

As for prices, they are reasonable and fair. Something is almost always on sale, so be sure to check them out on Facebook for their daily or weekly sales. I picked up a Carol Anderson by Invitation leopard print jacket that retails for about $150 for $12. This is the perfect jacket to spice up a look for the office. Here, I was inspired by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s $4,000 jacket (wowza!) and decided to create my own thrifty version with my $12 jacket from Gerri’s Closet.
