City Spotlight: You Had Me At Akron

My husband and I were recently invited to participate in a campaign aimed to help people fall in love with Akron. Funded by the Knight Foundation, The Akron Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau’s You Had Me at Akron campaign launched on Valentine’s Day as a way for people to rediscover what the city has to offer. We were among eight local couples who shared their favorite places to go on a date. Local photographer Shane Wynn captured all of the couples beautifully for the campaign’s booklet, which can be found at a number of local establishments. The booklet lists some of Akron’s best date spots by neighborhood. So you’re never at a loss for something to do, see or eat in Akron.  (See where you can get a free booklet here).

Being proud Akronites, we had fun thinking of our favorite places to go on a date. Since we’re both prone to cabin fever, we try to stay as active as possible. So an ideal date would start with a hike at one of Summit County’s Metroparks. The Nature Realm and Sand Run Park are two of our favorite trails. We would then head to Blu Jazz in the downtown Historic Arts District to catch a live show and dinner.

We also love 750ml, Edgar’s, and Nepali Kitchen, Diamond Deli, and Saffron Patch, just to name a few.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau is giving away prizes through March 18. All you have to do is go on a date in Akron and share your picture on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the tag #YouHadMeAtAkron.
