Be Festive! Five Places to Visit in Akron During the Holidays

Akron really becomes a magical place during the holidays. Here are some of my favorite places to visit in Akron this time of year:

{Stan Hwyet last year}

  • Lock 3 Park: The ice skating rink is open and the lights are up! This is especially great for kids but is fun for adults too. You can make an evening out of it and check out jazz musician, Dan Wilson at the Civic and take a stroll downtown.
{I took this at Stan Hywett last year}
  • Deck the Halls at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens: If you do anything festive this season, this has to be it. Stan Hywet is absolutely breathtaking this time of year. The entire estate is lit up with a spectacular display of lights. The Manor House is also beautifully decorated with different themes and I love the choir in the music room.
  • 750ml Wine Bar: This cozy little place in West Akron is a great place to get together with friends year round but there’s something especially festive about it during the holidays. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. Get a group together or meet up with a girlfriend and get in the holiday spirit
  • Downtown Peninsula: Okay, not really Akron but it’s close. Peninsula is an already charming place, so you can imagine how pretty it is this time of year. The Polar Express train runs through there and you can volunteer to be an elf if you’re as crazy as I am.  The lights and decorations are up and there are plenty of places to shop and eat.
  • Tuba Christmas: I usually go to Jingle Jazz but my sister really got me excited for Tuba Christmas this year.  Hundreds of festively decorated tubas play holiday music at the University of Akron. It’s early enough in the day that you can still squeeze one or two of the other options on the list!
