City Spotlight: Edgar's Restaurant in Akron

I've lived in Akron for almost 15 years and never knew that Edgar's existed. Boy have we been missing out. Located at the city's J.E. Good Park golf course in Akron, Edgar's is privately owned and operated by local Executive Chef Glenn Gillespie.

Around the holidays, I had entirely way too much time off work and spent hours watching Mad Men marathons, until one day this local jazz musician told me he was playing with his band at Edgar's, and that I should get off the couch and stop by. Not really knowing what to expect, I decided in advance I was only going to order a drink.

Well, that changed as soon as I walked into this place. First, it's beautiful inside. It was so cozy and intimate, yet friendly and welcoming. Edgar's was packed and everyone in there was clearly having a great time, not to mention the live music in the dining room set the perfect tone. What I appreciated  most about Edgar's, aside from the great service and food, is that the owner/ chef walks around to check on guests and says hello. We all thought it was such a nice gesture.

The first, second, and possibly the third time I visited  Edgar's I ordered the mussels. You get a heaping bowl of deliciousness soaked in a butter or tomato sauce for about $10, which is sometimes only $5 on Tuesdays!  Then, one day I ordered the baklava cheese cake...I don't really need to tell you how outstanding it was, well simply because it's one of the most ingenious dessert combinations ever.

Chef Gillespie and his staff change the menu weekly and keep fans updated on their website and social media sites with specials and prices. I never subscribe to updates on Facebook, but I made sure to sign up for notifications from Edgar's, because I never want to miss a special!

I am really looking forward to visiting Edgar's this summer. They have outdoor seating facing the golf course and have a smoker grill for mouthwatering dishes.
