Think rich Brooklyn grandma. At least that's what I think of when it comes to the chain/scarf trend.
This signature Versace print is an either love it or hate it one and it can be tricky. The recent Versace for H&M collection featured a lot of scarf/chain prints and I believe this sparked the return of the 1980s trend. I have quietly loved chain and tassel print for years but didn't have the guts to wear it besides on well - a scarf. This past winter, however, I was very surprised when I received many compliments when I decided to give in and wear the silk scarf print top I found at the thrift store with a leather mini skirt. A couple of weeks ago while browsing at Forever 21 I was even more surprised to see an entire wall of scarf print pieces for fall. This can get ugly because as seen with the Forever 21 top below, I predict many chain retail stores are about to go overboard with this.
NO!
Getting there.....
How to wear it?
It's a pretty loud print so I tend to go easy on the neck and ear accessories and stick with rings and bracelets. However,
gold chain necklaces look very cute with the scarf/chain print as well. Besides the mini leather skirt, I wore my top with a
dark denim blazer in the past.
Dyed denim is very much on trend this summer and fall and I think a scarf/chain top
would look absolutely adorable with a pair of dark red or royal blue jeans or trousers for work! I especially love the scarf print shorts, so cute for fall with tights! A cropped leather jacket would really make this print stand out even more...in a good way. I think the key is to find a right balance and maintain the classic look. The more clutter F21 mixes in with the print, the more I stay away.
Tip: because this was a popular print in the 80s and early 90s the thrift shops are exploding with chain and scarf print silk blouses and jackets.
Here's a picture of my chain blouse. I will share my look soon!

So what do you say...yay or nay?
I think the look works when the pattern is kept really classic ala...Ralph Lauren Style, or a lovely nautical navy and red.
ReplyDeleteI remember when you wore that! You looked so classy. I was thinking " only dina could pull that off " lol.. you really made it work. I agree, the less busy it is, the better
