City Spotlight: Highlighting Local Favorites

When five of your friends (who don't know each other) all check in to The Blue Door Cafe and Bakery for brunch on a Sunday, you know this place is good. A mini review on this incredible restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls is long overdue on my blog. The food is fresh, menu is changed daily, and the owner is attentive and cares about the customer's needs.  This place is always busy and for good reason. The corned beef and hash (a regular on the menu, I believe) is hands down some of the best in the city. The eggs Benedict is out of this world and the cheese danish is going to be the reason why none of my pants will fit me by fall.

When my friend suggested that we stop by Don Drumm Studio & Gallery on our lunch break sometime, I brushed her off thinking it wasn't a place I'd be interested in going to. I stopped in with her for my first time recently and feel badly about not taking her suggestion seriously.  Local artist Don Drumm is pretty well known in the Akron area but I had no idea the gift shop would be as cool as it was. I'm talking wall to wall of knick knacks, cards, paintings, hand made crafts, jewelry, and much much more from over 500 American designers. Anything you can think of, they have it. We spent over an hour in there browsing and I already made a mental note of all of the gifts I'm going to be buying for friends and family in the near future.

Summit and surrounding counties have some of the most beautiful parks. I stumbled upon the Babb Run Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary by accident one day and felt like I stepped onto the set of a movie. Surrounded by what seems like endless rows of trees and greenery, the further along you go into the woods the more you feel like you're in an enchanted forest. A spring fed stream runs through the entire length of the park and if you don't make too much noise you are bound to see some wildlife.

What are some of your favorite local places to visit?

  1. I have been shopping Don Drumm for years! I once gave one of the glass pieces away as a wedding gift and have regretted it ever since! They have some great stuff. I can always find great amber pieces there. And everyone raves about Blue Door! I have got to go, I have only grabbed a pastry to go!
