Dina's Decor: Decorating Colors

Although I huffed, puffed and complained for 2 weeks straight, painting the living room and bedrooms in my apartment was the best idea my sister could possibly come up with. After hauling all my junk for a week, I wanted nothing but to relax in my new bed and call it a day. But instead, she suggested that we paint and give the place a fresh new look. The difference painting a room makes is phenomenal. It's like living in an entirely new place.
Choosing a color can be both exciting and exhausting. Real Simple magazine (one of my favorite an frequent reads) almost always has a spread, Decorating with Color. It's like color 101 and is so helpful. If you are having a hard time deciding on a color for a specific room, I suggest checking it out.
I borrowed some photos from the Real Simple website via the Decorating with Color sections as well as other sources online to share some of my favorite colors with you:

Green in the Kitchen

Don't laugh, but there's a scene in Don't Mess With The Zohan when the men are in the kitchen, trying to make a long distance call, I instantly noticed the green walls in the kitchen. I just loved it.

I found this kitchen on flickr, doesn't the green look good?!

Another green kitchen, I think it looks so clean and fresh against the white

Brown

I have "spiced" brown walls in my bedroom. You can say it was a much more mature choice of color from the bubble gum pink I had at my parents house. I don't know how I decided on brown, but all I could picture in my head while at Home Depot were browns, golds and greens. I think a lot of people shy away from darker browns because it's not your typical color for a room. With the right furniture,  I think it could end up looking great.

Blue

The only kind of blue I really, really liked was the blue Carrie painted her apartment in the first SATC. I'm typically not a big fan of blue rooms, unless it's a kids room. But the shade they used in the movie just "blue" me away!

I feel like the pictures of her apt make the blue look lighter and that it was a little deeper in the movie. I would say the colors of the walls resembled the color of her dress in the movie, right?

Deep Purples

I will forever love a deep purple anything. Not a big fan of lavender, but only when used to accent the deep purple. Next bedroom color for me will definitely have to be a purple in this shade. I just want to jump in this picture and live there.

Oranges
When we chose orange for our living room, I have to admit I was a little nervous. I can't tell you how much I love it now. It goes well with so many different colors, from black, brown furniture and even bright colors like fuchsia.

 What's your favorite?
